There is plenty to see and do in Jamaica, so visitors should review their options before missing out on anything the island has to offer. Activities in Jamaica range from sun-tanning to scuba diving and should suit any budget or personality. Of the most popular activities in Jamaica, exploring the island's beautiful beaches ranks the highest on to-do lists. Within the country's 200 miles (325 km) of white and black sand are several beaches open to the public, though some will charge a small fee for admission. Many of the beaches, like Puerto Seco Beach in Discovery Bay and Cornwall Beach at Montego Bay, have water sport concessions on location and others, like James Bond Beach near Ocho Rios, feature live music. It is also very easy to find a food vendor at most beaches selling popular Jamaican treats. River rafting and boat tours are also favorite activities in Jamaica that would be memorable additions to any trip. Small groups can rent guided raft tours throughout Jamaica, usually for less than $50 U.S. Tour operators like Martha Brae River Rafting, Mountain Valley Rafting, and Rio Grande Attractions will lead your raft party into areas teeming with wildlife. It is a great way of seeing parts of the country that other activities in Jamaica wouldn't have covered. One of the biggest activities in Jamaica is the annual Carnival, the famous Caribbean street festival filled with music and dancing. If you want to visit Jamaica during Carnival, you have two chances - in April it is held in Kingston, Ocho Rios, and Montego Bay, but again in Negril the next month. Later on in the summer (July-August), the reggae world gathers in Jamaica for the annual Reggae Sunsplash, a four-day event featuring local and big-name talent.
